Tips that make it work
- Rules and deadlines differ by state. Check your state's election office before your shift.
- Never tell someone who to vote for while you help them register, if your group is nonpartisan.
- Turn in completed forms on time. Most states set a deadline for this.
- Bring extra pens and a clipboard. Clipboards make tables feel official.
- Stand in front of the table, not behind it.
What to say when people push back
| They say | You say |
|---|---|
| "I'm already registered." | Great! Has your address changed since you registered? |
| "I don't have time." | It takes about three minutes. I can also give you the link to do it later. |
| "My vote doesn't matter." | Local races are often won by a few hundred votes. Your vote counts most there. |
| "I'm not sure I'm eligible." | Check the rules at [STATE ELECTION OFFICE LINK]. I can't tell you for sure, but they can. |
